HOW TO BECOME A BIG
Bring a Little Magic into Someone’s Life: Become a Big!

What it Takes to be a BIG.
Are you a kid at heart?  Need an excuse to have some old-fashioned fun and games?  Like to spend time walking, fishing, bowling, playing games, or just hanging out, having fun?  Have a couple hours a week to give to a child who needs someone just like you?  Want to give something back to your community or be an influence on a child like somebody did for you when you were young?  No matter what your motivation:  WE HAVE A PROGRAM CUSTOM MADE FOR YOU!

Big Brothers and Big Sisters are all kinds of people -- from high school and college students to business people to retirees -- who volunteer to spend time with a child.  "Bigs" sometimes spend as little as one hour each week with a child who needs a special friend.

Do you want to be a Mentor?  It is a rewarding experience and you can make a difference in a child’s life with just a small amount of time on a weekly basis.  Just imagine – you can directly influence a child’s life with only a couple of hours per week.  Think back to when you were a kid.  Who was the person, other than a parent, who brought a little magic into your life, just by being there?  By becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister, you can be that person in the life of a child.  And you will build treasured memories through a friendship that will change your life and a child’s forever.

As a Community  Big, you and your Little will do everyday activities like playing sports, seeing a movie, cooking, going over schoolwork, visiting a museum, washing the car, taking a walk, volunteering in the community, or just hanging out.  And as in any friendship, it is the spontaneous, small moments of shared fun or discovery that you will remember forever.  That is the magic a Big brings to the life of a child-and that a Little brings to the life of a Big.

As a School-Based Big, you will meet with your Little in an After School Program setting, either at one of the elementary schools or another After School Site.

As a Lunch Buddy Big, you will meet with your Little during their lunch time at one of the elementary schools.

VOLUNTEER ELIGIBILITY

Volunteer Benefits.  The children are not the only ones to benefit from a Big/Little relationship.  Along with being a special friend, the volunteer gets a chance to play at being a child again.  Our "Bigs" consistently say that they get even more out of their friendship than the Littles, and our Littles grow into adults who want to be involved themselves and help another child.
